The Meadows at GVSU is host to our golf league, where we enjoy a beautifully maintained course with a link-style challenge, a wonderful rotation of holes, and an environment where the surrounding ecosystems are deeply valued. While the game of golf is an endless quest for perfection, the league provides a tradition of supporting an escape to our "three R's of golf". . . recreation, relaxation, and a round of fun. Membership in the golf league requires at least one team member be a current or retired employee of GVSU.

The league has an established and long-cherished collegial camaraderie, which we have celebrated since 1979. Being an avid golfer, Ester recruited a group of faculty and staff to begin the inaugural league at Western Greens Golf Club in Marne. Just a few years later, the league increased its membership and moved to Lincoln Golf Course-Grand Rapids for a brief stint, then to closer proximity at Jenison's Rolling Hills Golf Course where it played until 2004. The Meadows at GVSU has since been home and sanctuary to the golf league. Ester remains the only member of the original league still golfing today. Honoring her establishment of the league and retirement from the University, it was renamed the Ester Burns GVSU-Faculty/Staff Golf League in 2011.
